COMPOUND ADJECTIVES:
A compound adjective or (hyphenated adjective) is a single adjective made up of more than one word. The words in a compound adjective are usually grouped together using hyphens "--" to show it is a single adjective. e.g. well-known.
The hyphen "--" (or lack of it) makes a big difference in the meaning of the sentence:
A man-eating alligator (alligator that eats men)
A man eating alligator. ( a man is eating an alligator)
There are many types of compound adjectives as is shown in the list bellow:
Number + noun: one-way, fifty-page
Adjective + noun: long-distance, last-minute
Adjective + Present participle: good-looking, easy going
Noun + present participle: English-speaking, time-saving,
Noun + adjective: world-famous, smoke-free
